Day 2: The Long Walk from Rossport to Dublin - Sunday 30th July 2006

Day 2 of ‘The Long Walk to Dublin’ saw an early start at Bellanaboy. The 27 walkers gathered at 8am but due to the adverse weather conditions (it was lashing again!) we set off at about 8:30am.

Luckily, after about half a mile, conditions improved and the sun actually came out to dry us all out.
From then on in, the weather was very pleasant for walking. Sunshine, the odd shower to cool us down and a nice warm breeze.

Half way along the 16 mile route we stopped in Bangor for refreshments. Sizzlers Restaurant and Coffee shop provided an excellent full breakfast for those who wanted it. Light refreshments were also available. The tea, toast and a sit down was very welcome.

By this time we were ready to set off again, the sun was really shining. More walkers joined us at Bangor for the rest of the leg to Bellacorick.

There was plenty of support for the group along the way judging from the number of cars hooting as they passed us.

Mindful of the increase in traffic and not wanting to cause any problems for on coming cars, Shell To Sea group was careful to walk no more than two a breast and even single file in some dangerous areas.

The imposing site of the Bellacorick power station came into view and we knew we were nearly at the end of the second leg of the ‘Long Walk to Dublin’

Everyone was delighted to have completed day 2. More Shell To Sea supporters joined us at the end in Bellacorick.
The hardcore of walkers then made camp for the night, ready for the next leg of the journey which ends in Ballina on Monday 31st July 06.
