Corrib and Kyoto

According to James Lovelock in his latest book “The Revenge of GAIA”, methane is 24 times as potent a greenhouse gas as Carbon Dioxide. Given that one of the abysmal things Shell plans to do is cold leak 238,000Kg of gas, this equates to (assuming most of it is methane) about 5.7 million tonnes of CO2. I’d be interested to know whether the Irish Government or Shell is going to have to pay the associated <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = 'urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags' />Kyoto fine and how much the fine equates to or whether it is exemptK.C
