Statoil confirm gas oil leakage

Statoil confirm gas oil leakageFuel giant Statoil have admitted that an estimated 50,000 litres of gas oil has leaked from a storage tank in their Galway premises earlier this week. The spillage is thought to have occurred after water was allowed into the tank through a faulty valve, which was installed as part of the foam and water safety system, causing the tank to overflow.Environmental groups and other authorities are continuing the clean-up at present, although most of the spillage was contained in the Statoil compound.Galway city council have confirmed that they will be taking legal proceedings against the company, to pay for the damages and the massive clean-up that is underway. The Irish Coast Guard helicopter inspected the damage yesterday 9th October and found that most of the spillage had evaporated, although there was signs of the gas oil near the company’s compound.
