25% rise in gas prices

<?xml:namespace prefix = rte ns = 'urn:rte-search' />
A 25% increase in the price of gas comes into effect today (Oct 1).
The substantial price rise was approved by the Commission for Energy Regulation last month.
The Energy regulator, Tom Reeves, said the increase was granted because the price of gas on the international market had dramatically risen in recent months.
It is estimated that the average domestic heating bill for one year will rise from €750 to €940.
Electricity prices are also set to rise by an average of 4.1% from January.
