The Shell to Sea campaign today announced final details of its rally in Dublin on next Saturday, October 1st. The rally will depart from the Garden of Remembrance at 2pm and march to the Dail.
The rally will be addressed by the wives of the five men being held in Cloverhill prison - Maureen McGrath, Mary Corduff, Caitlin Ni Sheighin, Maureen McGrath, Aggie Philbin and Brid McGarry the 6th member of the Rossport 5.There will be short speeches by David Begg, Jack O'Connor, Mark Garavan and Frank McBrearty Jnr. The keynote speaker will be Dr. Owens Wiwa, brother of the executed Ogoni activist and writer Ken Sara Wiwa.Shell to Sea are extending an invitation to the party leaders of Fine Gael, Labour, Sinn Fein, Green Party , Socalist Party, Socalist Workers Party and a representative of the Independent TDs to support this campaign by attending and briefly addressing the rally. The Shell to Sea campaign is an inclusive movement which commands support from across the political spectrum. We call on the leaders of these parties to stand up and be counted in defence of the people of Rossport. The government and their partners Shell/STATOIL are colluding to break the will of Rossport 5 by indefinite imprisonment. This abuse of Irish citzens by Shell/STATOIL and this democratically and morally bankrupt Fianna Fail / PD government must be stopped now.
