New Norwegian government ‘may be more sympathetic to Mayo Five’ The Labour Party has said it hopes an impending change of government in Norway could spark a breakthrough in the case of the so-called Rossport Five.The five Co Mayo men have been in prison for 11 weeks for refusing to obey a court injunction ordering not to obstruct work on the Corrib gas pipeline.The Norwegian state is a majority shareholder in the oil firm Statoil, which is one of the companies behind the pipeline project.A Labour-Socialist coalition defeated Norway's conservative government in elections at the weekend and Labour TD Tommy Broughan said today that he hoped the new regime would be more sympathetic to the Rossport Five.
