Shell E & P Ireland has confirmed to Midwest News that the Bellanaboy Bridge Gas Terminal commenced the export of gas into the national grid this afternoon.

This follows an incident on September 22nd last which resulted in unodourised gas entering the national grid.

As a result, Gas Networks Ireland advised customers in Mayo and Galway to turn off their supply temporarily and flaring took place at the Bellanaboy terminal to burn off the unodourised gas.

The Corrib field’s output has been reduced by 9.9 million cubic meters per day since September 22nd, but will be reduced by just 6 million cubic meters during a ramp-up from today, according to the Reuters news agency.

An investigation into how the unodourised gas entered the network has been undertaken by the EPA, while other regulatory bodies such as the Commission for Energy Regulation are also looking into what occurred.

Shell E & P Ireland confirmed today that the Gas Terminal commenced the export of gas into the national grid this afternoon.

Shell to Sea posed a number of questions earlier this month to the EPA and the regulator, which they say have not been answered.

They’re calling for the EPA investigation, if complete, to be made public.
