By:
RTE

Prime Time 28 July

Prime Time examines the controversy over the tax terms offered to attract oil and gas companies - which some believe to be overly-generous. And we look to the lessons of the recent past, travelling to Rossport, Co Mayo, where the battle over landing gas from the Corrib field continues.

The Primetime can be seen here: http://www.rte.ie/news/av/2011/0728/primetime.html#

The section on the oil & gas terms begins 12 minutes into the show.  There follows a debate between Minister for Energy Pat Rabbitte and Sinn Féin's Mary Lou McDonald

For tonight’s Prime Time, we’ve travelled to the edge of the Porcupine Bank, some 150 miles off the coast of Clare, to see one oil company’s efforts to plumb the depths of the Atlantic.

As the Government is about to issue a major new round of licences for part of the western seaboard known as the Irish Atlantic Margin, we explore this vast no-man’s land that stretches over an area nine times the size of Ireland and represents the frontier of oil and gas exploration.
