"Funny Forum" Cancelled/Postponed

Shell to Sea Press Release 26:04:2010

The North West Mayo Community Development Forum which was due to meet in Rossport today, 26th April cancelled/postponed at short notice.

Shell to Sea understands that the North West Mayo Community Development Forum, otherwise referred to as the ‘Funny Forum’ had intended to hold one of its irregular meetings in Rossport today, 26th April. This forum was cancelled/postponed at short notice on Thursday evening last.

Shell to Sea further understands that this forum’s agenda was to include the following – review of current Shell investment in Erris; presentation on Licensing Terms and Conditions by Eamon Ryan’s department; discussion on the future direction of the Forum.

Shell to Sea spokesperson Maura Harrington stated ‘It was unbelievably crass of Shell and Government ministers to consider holding their Funny Forum in the heart of Rossport while Shell to Sea local fisherman Pat O’Donnell and Shell to Sea campaigner Niall Harnett remain in Castlerea Prison’.

The last meeting of the forum took place in Rossport on 2nd November 2009 and was marked by a ‘gagged’ protest by Shell to Sea.

Spokesperson Terence Conway stated ‘It is time this funny forum died a natural death as its sole purpose was to buy consent for a flawed project; it never addressed the health, safety and human rights concerns at local level and the scandalous giveaway of our natural resources when we most need them’.
