Irish oil and gas regime ‘weak’ and offers no security of supply, Committee hears

Ireland’s licensing regime for oil and gas exploration is “weak” and fails to ensure any guarantee of supply to the Irish market, the Oireachtas climate committee heard today.

Speaking before the Committee during scrutiny of the Climate Emergency Measures Bill, Dr Amanda Slevin said that exploration for gas and oil in Irish waters is not necessarily benefiting the state.

DID YOU KNOW that UCC recently recorded that 250,000 bottlenose dolphins come to the Irish Atlantic every summer?

That’s the world’s known population of dolphins. At least 24 species of rare and beautiful whales, dolphins and porpoises use Ireland’s seas as a migration route- including blue whales, humpback whales and even the odd Free Willy.

Corrib gas technician suffered traumatic head injury

AN inquest into the death of a German contractor in the Corrib Gas Tunnel in 2013 has returned a verdict of death due to a work place accident. 
The inquest into the death of Lars Wagner (26) originally from Hohberg-Diersburg, Germany, heard that Mr Wagner suffered fatal head injuries when he was struck on the head by a pipe that collapsed in a Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) on September 8, 2013.
The jury took less than ten minutes to return the verdict at Ballina District Court.
