‘Historic’ High Court decision recognises constitutional right to environmental protection

The High Court today recognised for the first time the constitutional right of Irish people to an environment that is consistent with the human dignity and well-being of citizens.

The judgement was made today in relation to a challenge brought by Friends of the Irish Environment against a decision to grant the Dublin Airport Authority a five-year extension to a 2007 planning permission for the construction of a third runway at Dublin Airport.

Corrib gas will be marketed by Nephin Energy

The Canada Pension Plan Investment Board, which agreed to acquire Shell's 45pc stake in the Corrib gas field off Co Mayo for up to €1.1bn during the summer, is backing a new energy company here to market gas from the resource.

Nephin Energy is being billed as "Ireland's newest energy company".

The new natural resources company will supply and sell gas from Corrib, it has confirmed.

€38m revenue hit for Corrib partners after gas problems

Corrib Gas Partners lost out on estimated natural gas revenues of around €38m in the third quarter of this year as a result of odourless gas getting into the network and a scheduled downtime.

Production ceased at the Bellanaboy gas terminal in Co Mayo on September 9th for a scheduled downtime and a total of 31 days of production were lost.

This was as a result of odourless gas being pumped into the gas network in the west of Ireland after the plant was restarted temporarily.

Odourless gas costs Corrib producers

The firms behind the Corrib gas field may have lost out on an estimated €38m in revenues in the third quarter as a result of odourless gas getting into the gas network and a scheduled downtime.

 

 

The release of the odourless gas has resulted in two inquiries — by the Commission for Regulation of Utilities and the Environmental Protection Agency.
