A US Coast Guard report has concluded that authorities should consider hitting Shell with penalties over the grounding of an oil drilling rig in the Gulf of Alaska in 2012.

Alan Shatter rejects Corrib policing probe

Minister for Justice Alan Shatter has rejected fresh calls for an independent inquiry into the Garda policing operation of the €3.4bn Shell Corrib gas project in north Co Mayo.

Last week, South African archbishop Desmond Tutu and former UN assistant secretary general Denis Halliday called for an “urgent and comprehensive” independent inquiry into the policing of the Corrib gas project.

They were among a group of signatories supporting the call by peace and justice group Afri.

Concerns about Corrib bugging must be re-examined – Cowley

A former TD complained seven years ago to then Minister for Justice Michael McDowell about his phone being bugged because he supported the Corrib gas campaign. Speaking to The Mayo News last night (Monday), he said that in light of recent developments in relation to calls being recorded in garda stations, now is the time for the Gardaí to answer questions about any undercover operations that might have been connected to the Corrib controversy in Erris.
