[Shell to Sea] It seems that some of the Saw Doctors have written a song about the campaign

"Moran sang a number of new and unfamiliar songs, including “Fill Her Up There Mister Oil Man” about a fight between the people of Co. Mayo and the Shell Oil Company. “You’ll never beat the bravery of the people of Mayo/they won’t be bought or bullied and as long as they’re alive/they’ll stand up strong and follow/that famous Rossport Five,” he sings defiantly."

On the Horizon - Journey to Lofoten Islands, Norway, 16th Oct 2013

By:
Risteard Ó Domhnaill

About a year ago a Norwegian fisherman, Bjørnar Nicolaisen, from the breath-taking Lofoten Islands in the north of Norway visited Rossport with his wife. He had seen my doc ‘The Pipe’ and wanted to see for himself what was happening in Ireland and talk to fishermen, especially Pat ‘The Chief’ O’Donnell who almost single-handedly took on the worlds largest pipe-laying ship ‘Solitaire’.

Shell and OSSL dispute whether inducements were given to Gardai and named individuals.

“Shell was using OSSL to win hearts and minds in Mayo to progress the project but suddenly things changed, and tracks needed covering”- Desmond Kane, OSSL

Seventeen years ago this month, the Petrolia drilling rig hit a natural gas field

50 miles off the west coast of Mayo. According to Briain O Cathain, MD of Enterprise Energy, who made the find, “It was one of the biggest well-tests that Enterprise had ever done”. For O Cathain and other Irish people working in oil and gas around the world, it represented great hope that finally they could come home to work in the emerging Irish industry.

O Cathain, now heading the successful oil company, Petroceltic, did not get to see the Corrib project to fruition. Following Shell’s takeover of Enterprise and planning difficulties with Corrib, O Cathain moved on. With hindsight, it was a good move.

Shell loses licence to operate controversial Mayo gas terminal

By:
Michelle Hennessy - TheJournal.ie

SHELL HAS LOST a licence to operate a gas terminal at Bellanaboy in Co Mayo after a court challenge by a local resident.

The licence had been issued by the Environmental Protection Agency in June of this year but today the Commercial Court conceded the case brought by Martin Harrington and rescinded the licence.

Harrington had argued that the EPA failed to carry out a proper environmental impact assessment before granting the licence for Shell to operate the Mayo gas refinery and the Commercial Court found there were defects in the carrying out of the assessment.

Shell Ireland project suffers legal setback

By:
Shane Harrison - BBC News

The controversial Shell Corrib gas pipeline project in County Mayo in the Republic of Ireland has suffered a setback.

The Commercial Court in Dublin on Wednesday quashed a revised licence for the gas terminal at Ballinaboy.

Shell Ireland played down the importance of the Commercial Court decision and said it "was studying the ruling".

The project is nine years behind schedule.
