News Release: Shell cut refinery gas pipe they thought was a water pipe

News release - Issued by Shell to Sea - Friday 19th April 2013

SHELL CUT REFINERY GAS PIPE THEY THOUGHT WAS A WATER PIPE
-- Latest incident further example of Shell as “Neighbour from Hell” --

Shell has admitted that on Monday, the 8th April, they had to vent all the nitrogen currently in the gas pipes at the Bellanaboy refinery, after they mistakenly cut a gas pipe. Shell claim the reason for this was the gas pipe was mistaken for a water pipe in the refinery and was cut.  The gas pipes on the refinery site are currently filled with nitrogen to inhibit corrosion.   The incident only came to light because a local resident contacted Midwest Radio with details of the incident.   Shell confirmed the incident took place one week after the event.

More allegations about Shell Corrib Gas Project

“On the Corrib gas terminal Shell are employing people to do the work of industrial fitters who are not qualified… so are putting the safety of the terminal at risk. The latest breach in health and safety was on Monday the 8th of April, a worker employed as a fitter without the necessary papers worked on cutting pipes… he cut through a live nitrogen pipe and put many lives at risk.

Midwest Radio Report on Shell cutting a refinery gas pipe, which they claim they thought was a water pipe.

By:
Midwest Radio

Here is an audio clip from Midwest Radio regarding a incident which took place at Bellanaboy refinery on Monday, the 8th April. Seemingly a Shell worker cut one of the gas pipes on the refinery, which are now filled with nitrogen and so all nitrogen in refinery pipes thus had to be vented into the air. Shell are claiming the worker thought the gas pipe was a water pipe, until they cut it.

‘Corrib could have helped saved economy’

By:
Áine Ryan - Mayo News

NO need for a Property Tax or mass emigration, cutbacks in primary health services and rural schools, if the Corrib gas field, and the country’s many other offshore resources, were in the rightful ownership of the citizens of the State. That is what Sinn Féin’s Cllr Rose Conway-Walsh said at her party’s Ard Fheis, which brought over 2,000 delegates to Castlebar, over the weekend.

Irish Police corruption, booze and violence sponsored by Shell?

By:
John Donovan - RoyalDutchShellPLC.com

Members of the Irish police force, perhaps fueled by an alleged flood of free booze funded by Shell, smuggled across the border at Shell’s behest, have been accused of using excessive violence against Corrib gas pipeline protestors.
