Academics complain to Garda Ombudsman about ‘aggressive’ procedures used

A group of academics from National University of Maynooth (NUIM) have sent a statement to the Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission (GSOC) strongly criticising the handling of the ongoing investigation into the so-called Corrib garda rape-tape incident, which occurred just over a year ago.
The academics, who are members of staff at the Adult and Community Education and the Sociology departments at NUIM, argued that “from the outset” the commission treated their student, Ms Jerrie Ann Sullivan, one of the women at the centre of the rape-tape, as “the perpetrator rather than the victim” in the situation.

April 11th Court Hearings and Action

Four members of the camp were up in court yesterday in Belmullet to face protest related charges. One case received a mention and was put back to next month and the other three all received probation, and so don’t have a criminal record or any fines to pay.

NUIM academics on GSOC & the Rossport rape recordings

Seven academics from NUI Maynooth have released this statement revealing the details of how GSOC treated them in the course of its 'investigation' into the Garda who recorded themseves threatening to rape a women in their custody to force her to give them her name and address.  The statement was published as part of response to GSOC's highly misleading interim report.

Good Friday Walk 2012

This year's Good Friday walk in Kilcommon took place from Glengad to Aughoose along the L1202. This is the road beside Sruth Mhada Chonn estuary - where Shell intend to bore a tunnel to house 5km of the 8km planned onshore Corrib gas pipeline.
