RTÉ to broadcast Corrib rape tape correction

RTÉ has been ordered to broadcast a correction about news coverage of the so-called Corrib garda rape tape. The correction will clarify the fact that the relevant parts of the controversial tape were not altered before being handed over to the Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission (GSOC).  
It will be broadcast tomorrow evening (Wednesday, December 7) before RTÉ One’s Six One and Nine O’ Clock news programmes.

RTÉ IS TO make a statement about its coverage of part of the Corrib ‘rape tape’ claims.

It follows a complaint to the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland (BAI) by Jerrie Ann Sullivan, one of the women whose arrest led to a senior Garda and his colleagues recording themselves talking about the women who were in their custody.

RTE in hot water over Corrib 'rape tape'

RTE will broadcast a correction in relation to their coverage of the Corrib garda 'rape' recording case.

The station has been ordered to air the correction by the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland (BAI) and will air this tomorrow before their news programmes at 6pm and 9pm.

The move comes less than two weeks after they rebroadcasted an apology to libel victim Fr Kevin Reynolds.

This correction relates to the introductions of reports on the Corrib garda 'rape' recording case which aired on July 28 last.

RTE has been ordered to broadcast a televised correction about its “harmful”, “inaccurate” and “unfair” coverage of the women who brought the Corrib Garda rape recording to public attention. RTE falsely reported that the recording had been “tampered with”. 

The correction, to be broadcast before the 6.01 News and Nine O’Clock News this Wednesday (December 7th), follows a complaint to the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland (BAI) by Jerrie Ann Sullivan, one of the women whose arrest led to a senior Garda and his colleagues recording themselves talking about raping the women who were in their custody. 

RTÉ report on Corrib tape breached 'fairness'

THE BROADCASTING Authority of Ireland has upheld complaints about RTÉ television’s reporting of an investigation by the Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission into the Corrib tape controversy.

The authority found two RTÉ television news broadcasts on July 28th, 2011, on the findings of the interim Garda ombudsman report, were in breach of “fairness, objectivity and impartiality in current affairs” under section 48(1) of the 2009 Broadcasting Act.

Gardai and IRMS rendered powerless as campaigners blockade Shell’s compound

Work was completely halted at Shell’s compound yesterday for over five hours in a great show of resiliance by local campaigners and their supporters. For the past two weeks now, Shell have been attempting to remove masses of peat from the compound in preparation for the tunnel boring machine which is expected to arrive early next year. Progress has been continuously disrupted as protesters brave the winter weather to stop trucks and a determined resistance is building momentum.
