Providence to drill off Cork coast for oil

The search for oil off the Cork coast is to be stepped up next month.

Providence Resources said it would begin a drilling programme at the Barryroe field, off the coast at Baltimore, shortly.

It was awaiting the arrival of the GSF Arctic III in the area, Tony O’Reilly, chief executive of Providence said.

Preparation work had already begun in advance of the arrival of the semi-submersible.

Mayo County Council (MCC) are continuing the policy of targeting campaigners who oppose the Corrib Gas Project, this time by threatening the Rossport Solidarity Camp with forced eviction in a letter sent last week. MCC accused the Rossport Solidarity Camp of “Unauthorised use of lands for camping at Aghoos, Ballina, Co. Mayo” on the site which the camp had been based for the summer.

Providence Resources to begin drilling Barryroe well in mid-November

Oil and gas explorer Providence Resources (LON:PVR) announced today that it expects to begin drilling operations on its 48/24-J Barryroe appraisal well in mid-November now that the well location and programme have been finalised using new fast-track 3D seismic data.

Sir, – With regard to Kitty Holland’s article (Home News, October 11th) stating that the Occupy Dame Street protesters remained “uncertain yesterday as to what exactly their demands are”, I would like to point out that this is not quite the case. The ongoing protest outside the Central Bank is primarily acting as a focal point for citizens to meet, discuss, voice and demonstrate their dissatisfaction at the current regime of Government in this country and indeed internationally.
