Shell Deliveries Halted by Road Protest

On Tuesday morning outside Shell's Bellanaboy refinery in Mayo 15 people blocked a Barrett's quarry truck from making a delivery of stone to Shell's tunneling compound in Aughoose, halting all other deliveries for the morning. One person got on top of the lorry and was arrested.

Neptune Network inviterer til visning av den prisbelønte dokumentaren "The Pipe" MANDAG 31. oktober kl. 17.00 på Cinemateket. Filmen omhandler det svært omstridte gassprosjektet i Corrib utenfor det lille lokalsamfunnet Rossport ved den irske nordvestkysten. Statoil har 36% eierandel i prosjektet, som i en periode på over 9 år har møtt stor lokal motstand.

Eve (11) joins in the Dame Street protest

A DUNDALK schoolgirl who survived open heart surgery as a baby joined hundreds of others at the first weekend of the Occupy Dame Street protest in Dublin.

Eve Haberland, who featured on the front page of the Argus in September 2001, was taken to the Occupy protest by her Shell to Sea activist mum, Nicole, on Saturday and the pair even spent a night at the makeshift camp.

Nigerians seek $1 bln from Shell over oil spills

ABUJA (Reuters) - A Nigerian community from the oil-rich Niger Delta has filed a lawsuit in the United States seeking $1 billion in compensation from Anglo-Dutch oil major Shell for decades of pollution caused by oil spills.

Last week the U.S. Supreme Court agreed to decide if companies can be held liable in the United States for international human rights law violations.

The decision was related to a case involving allegations that Shell helped Nigeria violently suppress oil exploration protests in the 1990s.

Hundreds of gas wells to be constructed on Lough Allen Basin

Tamboran Resources expect to drill hundreds of gas wells over the next 15 years on the Lough Allen Basin, with the majority located in Co Leitrim.

Richard Moorman CEO of Tamboran Resources, one of the companies in possession of an onshore petroleum licence to explore the Lough Allen Basin for commercial gas has told the Leitrim Observer, “The best gas is in Leitrim.”

Tamboran Resources expect to drill hundreds of gas wells over the next 15 years on the Lough Allen Basin, with the majority located in Co Leitrim.

Time to #Occupy Ireland?

They might not be gaining much media attention but there are now three encampments in Ireland inspired by the #occupywallstreet protest in New York.
#occupycork, #occupygalway and Dublin’s #occupydamestreet are now home to hundreds who just want to do something, their ranks swelling in daylight with less-hardy souls. They claim to represent the 99 per cent, the silent majority who control little of the country’s wealth.

Outside the gates of Shell's Bellanaboy refinery in Mayo on Tuesday 18th October, someone got on top of a tractor, blocking all Shell deliveries for the morning.
