WORKSAFE Victoria will visit Shell on Monday to probe how two contractors were exposed to potentially lethal gas in a leak at the Corio oil refinery yesterday.

Eight CFA crews from across Geelong were called to the Shell plant after the company sounded a major alert about 8.35am after hydrogen sulfide, a flammable and poisonous gas, was found to have leaked from one of the refinery pumps.

Yesterday's alert was deemed to be of the highest level of three available to Shell, according to CFA sources.

The gardaí present said to "take it up with the County Council" if there was a problem. Rabbitte rules out delaying oil licences

By:
Lorna Siggins - Irish Times

MINISTER FOR Energy Pat Rabbitte has said he has “no plans” for a moratorium on issuing new petroleum licences off the west coast before any review of the State’s existing terms for oil and gas companies.

The Minister’s response to a Dáil question last week effectively rejects a recent call by the union Siptu for such a moratorium until a promised Oireachtas review of the licensing system is carried out.

Fracking debate hots up as locals react strongly to company’s comments

By:
Leitrim Observer

The potential development of the Lough Allen Basin as a place where hundreds of gas wells could be constructed by companies such as Tamboran Resources looks set to be one of the biggest stories in this region for some time to come.

Last week’s interview with Richard Moorman, CEO Tamboran Resources, drew a strong and an often heated response as protesters objected to the manner in which the story was covered in last week’s paper.
