Corrib clashes escalate as final phase begins

AS Shell begins construction work on the final phase of the controversial Corrib gas project clashes between protestors and IRMS (Integrated Risk Management Services) personnel continued yesterday with a lone man, suspended from a 20-foot high tripod, impeding work from shortly after dawn until lunchtime. The tri-pod was situated along the public road to Aughoose from the Bellanaboy refinery site.

Shell's First Day of Peat Works 'Severely Impeded' by Protests

Monday 25th July Shell intended to begin constructing a permanent compound in Aughoose from which to begin laying the offshore pipeline. However in a statement to Midwest radio Shell commented that works had been 'severely impeded' on Monday. Between a 5½ hour tripod blockade in the morning and loads of protesters on bicycles and on foot, the roads remained shut down for quite a lot of the day.

National Day of Action next Friday as Shell's first day of tunnel work halted

Shell’s long-awaited attempt to start work on its controversial tunnel near Rossport today has been halted by campaigners, who erected a 20-foot high tripod on the road (see link to image below).

Oil companies poised to unveil huge profits

Friday 22nd July Shell brought a digger and a port-a-cabin into the existing temporary compound in Aughoose. This is in preparation to start building a permanent compound in Aughoose from which they hope to start digging the tunnel for the pipeline which will connect Ballinaboy refinery to the 70 kms of offshore pipeline. They will come in full force on Monday 25th July, please come up to Mayo and show your support! A mass day of action is planned for Friday 29th July, but come up any time.

Clashes mark final phase of Corrib pipe construction

SHELL E&P Ireland began construction work on the final phase of the Corrib gas project yesterday, with clashes between a small number of protesters and a cordon of 75 security personnel.

The confrontations occurred when equipment was moved into the construction site for the gas pipeline and tunnel at Aughoose.

One protester who claims he was injured by four I-RMS security personnel has lodged a complaint with the Garda. The firm said it was “not aware of any injuries”.

Shell start work at Arghoose compound in Erris - day of action called

Rossport Solidarity Camp is reporting that this morning Shell started work at the compound in Aughoose where they intend to start digging the tunnel to house a section of the experimental high pressure raw gas pipeline that has been opposed for a decade by the local community.

Shell to Exit Natural-Gas Project in Canada

CALGARY, Canada—Royal Dutch Shell PLC said Friday it plans to sell its stake in a long-stalled, C$16.2-billion (US$17 billion) natural-gas production and pipeline project in Canada’s far north, as well as its other assets in the region.
