Rape threat not made personally, report finds

THE INTERIM Garda Ombudsman report into the Corrib tape controversy says that at no stage were either of the women involved threatened personally with being raped, deported or subject to “any other form of threat” by gardaí.

The women did not hear the conversation on the tape until after their release, when the camcorder was returned to them.

The subsequent controversy elicited widespread public comment, and Garda Commissioner Martin Callinan issued an apology.

Even after the roadblock was cleared, protesters kept delaying every tractor delivery

On Wednesday 27th July two people locked their arms into a concrete barrel or 'lock-on,' blocking the road between Shell's Bellanaboy refinery and the tunnelling compound in Aughoose. This stretch of road has been the focus of the protests this week with protesters on bikes and on foot blocking tractors in addition to the tripods and lock-ons.

Shell profits double to $18.6bn, boosted by high oil prices

Higher oil prices have helped doubled profits at Royal Dutch Shell this year, allowing it to steam ahead of rival energy giant BP.

The Anglo-Dutch company made profits of $18.6bn (£11.5bn) on a cost of supply basis – stripping out the effects of inventory changes.

Clashes and protests mark final phase of Corrib project

CLASHES between security personnel and activists, a tripod protest, and the removal of a caravan, all marked the beginning of construction work on the final phase of the Corrib gas project.

Yesterday (Monday) a female protestor was arrested after tying herself to a 15-foot wooden tripod at Aughoose. The woman remained at the top of the structure for more than three hours in an attempt to prevent work vehicles from entering the site.

Royal Dutch Shell Profit Nearly Doubles
