When breaking the law is justified

By:
Antonia Zerbisias - TheStar.com

The recent bad news about climate change thundered through the scientific community like those twisters through the U.S.

First, the International Energy Association (IEA) announced global greenhouse gas emissions hit record highs in 2010, threatening to catapult Earth over the 2C rise in temperature that, scientists predict, will lead to cataclysmic changes.

We’re already up one degree, attributed to human causes. That’s enough to cause widespread drought, wildfires, flooding, extreme weather — and shrinkage of the polar ice caps.

In fact, a series of recent remarks made by the Labour minister, from Ballindine, has led community group, Pobal Chill Chomáin to seek an urgent meeting with him. In a letter, seen by The Mayo News, they claim he is misinformed about key issues relating to the project and protest.

Party against the Pipe Update

Thank you to everyone who came! The weather held out pretty much until the last minute, the music was brilliant, the food was amazing and the people were fantastic.

With up to 500 people dancing around on the bog, rainbows and teepees, we had an amazing time. Keep an eye out for the photos.

Massive thanks to all the bands, (really great to have you), chefs, (did you ever stop?), volunteers, sound engineers, helpers, servers, litter pickers, toilet attendants and everyone else who ran around behind the scenes making it all happen.
