By:
Lorna Siggins, The Irish Times

A SENIOR Garda in north Mayo has appealed for any protests against work at the Corrib gas pipeline to be peaceful, on the eve of two “days of action” planned by the Rossport Solidarity Camp.

The appeal was made yesterday by Supt Pat Diskin of Belmullet Garda station, who said he respected the “right to peaceful protest” and the “right of people to go to their place of work”.

Shell compound access blocked for 16 hours

Last night and this morning, Shell were blocked from accessing their newly created compound in Aughoose for 16 hours after a protester locked on underneath an IRMS security van that was blocking the entrance. Members of the local community and Rossport Solidarity Camp kept vigil throughout the night, worried that IRMS might try to use similar violence to the night that Willie Corduff was beaten up while under a lorry at the Glengad compound in 2009.

Corrib struggle is about what kind of Ireland we want

By:
William Callaghan - Dublin Shell to Sea - Mayo Advertiser

There was something strangely apt about the way former Fianna Fail TD Pat Carey signed consents for the Corrib Gas pipeline on the day of the recent general election. It perfectly encapsulated the cronyist, cowardly, short-sighted and undemocratic manner in which this Frankenstein’s monster of a project was created and kept alive by a succession of Fianna Fail ministers.

Shell construction halted again in Erris as their own security vehicle is turned into a blockade

By:

On the second day of intended works on the controversial Corrib gas project, Shell’s attempts to restart work have yet again been stopped. In an attempt to stop campaigners blocking access to the proposed compound site, private security firm IRM-S parked a vehicle in the gateway, hoping to remove the vehicle when workers attempted to gain access. At 7 o clock yesterday evening a member of Rossport Solidarity Camp turned the security vehicle into a blockade by locking onto the undercarraige of the vehicle stopping it from moving.

Shell’s proposed work schedule

472 truck movements per day, coming your way
Shell is shortly expected to attempt construction of the Corrib onshore pipeline. Years later than originally planned, rerouted three times, the onshore pipeline remains the most controversial, dangerous and costly onshore pipeline to be constructed in Ireland.
We face over two years of yet more disruption; being surrounded by  heavy construction traffic, escorted truck convoys, noise and light pollution, van loads of Shell workers, Gardai and private security moving continuously between construction sites in our community.

The businessman and the politician

Fourteen years after beginning its inquiry into events that originated in 1995,we now have a High Court judge’s assessment, findings and conclusions of events that took place around the most lucrative licence ever awarded by the state.

Ironically, it has proved to be one of the most lucrative awards ever, perhaps overshadowed only by the exploration licence that resulted in the Corrib gas find.
